- Vegan Ramen At Lonely Mouth. When we visited Newtown recently, we decided to check out Lonely Mouth, a vegan ramen cafe. Although vegan ramen might sound unappealing if you’re not vegan, we secretly had a feeling it was going to be awesome.
- Black Star Pastry. Blackstar Pastry is one of the more famous Newtown cafes, which has been around for a while now. Known for serving up excellent coffee and of course the famous watermelon cake, come here for dessert after you’ve been to Lonely Mouth next door!
- Not For Profit Lentil As Anything (now closed) Lentil As Anything has been around for years and it’s no wonder why. This non-for-profit restaurant is run by volunteers who are serving up vegan food for the homeless and anyone and everyone.
- Vegan Vietnamese At Golden Lotus. As another vegan restaurant in Sydney, Golden Lotus has tested the time and is still going strong. Serving up vegan Vietnamese food, you can’t go wrong with this choice and it’s somewhere we go all the time.
- Explore all the street art. The first and foremost thing you’re bound to notice about Newtown is the art splashed on the walls, ceilings and buildings in the neighbourhood.
- Let your hair down at the Enmore Theatre. Enmore Theatre is an entertainment venue in the city but its legacy goes well beyond just that. Over the years it has been home to some of Australia’s best live music, theatre and comedy.
- Explore the food scene. A lot of Newtown’s rich and diverse character is reflected in its dynamic food offerings. From pasta to ramen, tandoori chicken to contemporary Australian, you’ll be hard-pressed to not find cuisine of your liking here.
- Grab a cocktail at Earl’s Juke Joint. Want to experience a classic New Orleans vibe right here at home? Earl’s Juke Joint is the place to go to. The Newtown institution has been bringing good drinks and good times to the city since 2013 and is showing no signs of slowing down.
- EASTERN SUBURBS (Coogee, Bondi, Rose Bay, Double Bay, Bronte) Pros – the appeal is obvious. The Sydney’s eastern suburbs are a beautiful part of the world (indeed full of beautiful people).
- INNER WEST (Newtown, Glebe, Erskineville, Leichhardt, Balmain) Pros – a colourful and cultural enclave, you live in the inner west if you’re half cool.
- INNER EAST (Potts Point, Darlinghurst, Paddington, Surry Hills) Pros – the inner east is the beating heart of Sydney. You don’t get more central than this, able to walk into the city or jump on all kinds of public transport (a car, completely unnecessary).
- LOWER NORTH SHORE (Neutral Bay, Lavender Bay, North Sydney, Kirribilli, Waverton) Pros – this peaceful pocket of Sydney offers a more relaxed way of life, yet it’s only an express bus or train stop over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
