  2. Born in Glasgow, Morrison studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1950-54. He first visited the east-coast fishing village of Catterline in 1955 and moved there in 1957. He taught at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee from 1965 and settled in Montrose that year.

  6. Jun 20, 2022 · Morrison attributed his embrace of ‘socially relevant’ painting in the 1950s and ’60s to his friendship with Glasgow painters including George McGavin and Bill McLucas. He would later cite the influence of the Hague School and that of Claude Lorrain, whose mark can be seen in the colonnade depicted in Caledonia Road Church, Glasgow (1977).
