I couldn't get into Hwarang though it's true the eye candy is there.. I always recommend Imperial Coroner for folks looking for a good historical drama, it is a cdrama but if you haven't seen you should take a look. Murders, mystery, political corruption, a sweet romance built on loyalty, trust and respect.
This drama is objectively not a good one, but it has a lot of pretty. Tbh compared to the cast and hype prior to broadcast, it was quite mediocre. I would only recommend since you are a fan, and want to watch his filmography.

It boasted a star studded cast as well as the fact that it was pre-filmed which seemed to promise a quality show that would become "the next big hit".

As it turns out, the drama became a pitiful case of lost potential. The story was lacking, to say the least.

Hwarang is spoofy, silly, comical, and hilarious, but manages to balance it out with fun characters, poignant emotions, and well-placed drama when necessary.
Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (Korean: 화랑; Hanja: 花郞; lit. Hwarang) is a 2016 South Korean television series starring Park Seo-joon, Go Ara and Park Hyung-sik. It revolves around an elite group of young men called Hwarang, who discover their passion, friendship and love in the turmoil of the Silla Kingdom (57 BC–AD 935).
