- The Conjuring (2013) The Conjuring isn't just Wan's best horror film, it's his best film in general. It's also both one of the 2010s best horror films and one of 2013's best movies overall, with an incredible focus on character that establishes the film as a cut above its contemporaries (as does the tension-building in scenes like the clap game).
- Saw (2004) Kicking off a franchise that puts even the five-installment Insidious franchise to shame, 2004's Saw (a feature-length adaptation of Wan's and writer/star Leigh Whannell's short film) is certainly the most iconic film Wan has ever made.

- Malignant. Malignant is hands down James Wan’s most unique film to date. Hell, it’s one of the most unique horror movies in recent memory, so if you haven’t seen it, I’m not going to spoil it for you.
