Meanwhile, Vasquez shoots Luz in her good eye, completely blinding her. Luz kills Vasquez in return but is captured by Voz, frozen in Carbonite and taken aboard his ship. Machete jumps on the missile as it launches and disarms it in mid-air, while Voz boards the ship and departs with the Zaror clones, his supporters, as well as Luz.
Vasquez flies an airplane to bring Machete to Acapulco, and before he ejects out of the plane she gives him a cell phone. Later when Machete captures Mendez, he calls Vazquez to tell her that the missile aimed for Washington D.C. will launch once Mendez's heart stops beating.
Machete learns that Mendez has wired the missile's launch device to his own heart so that if he dies, the missile fires. Mendez kills the device's designer and activates its 24-hour timer. Killing Zaror along the way, Machete intends to escort Mendez to the US and find a way to disarm the missile.

With help from his new handler Blanca Vasquez aka Miss San Antonio (Amber Heard), Machete infiltrates Mendez' secret base, but runs into trouble when he finds out that Mendez has wired the detonator to his heart, which Mendez then activates, starting a 24-hour countdown until the missile launches.
