Järryd won a men's doubles bronze medal at the Olympic Games that year, partnering Edberg. Järryd was a member of the Swedish team which won the World Team Cup in 1988. He partnered Fitzgerald in 1989 to win the men's doubles title at Wimbledon, thus completing a career set of all four Grand Slam men's doubles titles.
