Weißensee (German pronunciation: [ˌvaɪ̯sn̩ˈzeː]) is a quarter in the borough of Pankow [2][3] in Berlin, Germany, that takes its name from the small lake Weißer See (literally 'White Lake') within it.
Weißensee is a bit inconspicuous and has a lovable small-town character. It is quieter here than in the trendy districts, but still urban. The students of the Weißensee Art Academy provide a lively flair. In Weißensee there are both old buildings and elegant new developments. The district has a lot of greenery to offer.

Established as the village of Wittense in the 13th Century, and greatly developed and expanded in the late 1800s, Weißensee has been at times attractive and well-heeled, at others a faded backwater; today it often has the feel of a separate town rather than a suburb of the Hauptstadt.

In its vicinity are a park and various amusement facilities. In addition to the namesake Weißer See lake, the district is also known for the Weißensee Academy of Art. In the 1920s, films were produced in Weißensee, including the cult classic silent film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari".
