Nam (Korean: 남구, lit. ' South ') is a gu, or district, in south-central Busan, South Korea. Much of Nam-gu sticks out into the Sea of Japan , forming a peninsula which separates Suyeong Bay from Busan Harbor. It has an area of 25.91 km 2. Nam-gu officially became a gu of Busan in 1975. In 1995 part of Nam-gu was divided to form Suyeong-gu.
There are two kinds of districts in South Korea. One is the autonomous district of special and metropolitan cities, which is a municipal entity similar to a city with its own mayor along with its own legislative council. The other is the non-autonomous district of municipal cities.
Nam District (Nam-gu, 남구) is the southern district of Gwangju (광주광역시), South Korea. 'Nam'(南) means 'south' in Korean hanja. 'gu'(區) means 'district' of metropolitan city in Korean hanja.
