The Indian Premier League (IPL), also known as the TATA IPL for sponsorship reasons, is a men's Twenty20 (T20) cricket league held annually in India. Founded by the BCCI (the Board of Control for Cricket in India) in 2007, the league features ten state or city-based franchise teams.

- Deccan Chargers. The Hyderabad-based franchise was one of the sides which was part when the tournament was conceived back in 2008. They finished eighth in the inaugural edition but then clinched the title in 2009 when the IPL was held on South Africa.
- Kochi Tuskers Kerala. It was one of the two teams which were added to the existing sides in 2011 and was based out of Kochi in Kerala. It was owned by Kochi Cricket Pvt Ltd which was a consortium of companies and had acquired the services of VVS Laxman, Mahela Jayawardene, Parthiv Patel, Ravindra Jadeja.
- Pune Warriors India. Along with Kochi, the Pune Warriors too was introduced in the year 2011. It was owned by Sahara Group Sports Ltd. and the side played three seasons of IPL.
- Deccan Chargers (2008-2012) The Chargers were one of the most successful teams during their time in the IPL. They are the only defunct team to win the IPL title.
- Gujarat Lions (2016-2017) The Gujarat Lions were one of the teams which replaced the suspended CSK and Rajasthan Royals franchises, which were banned for 2 seasons in 2016 and 2017.
- Kochi Tuskers Kerala (2011) After IPL’s immense success, The BCCI decided to increase the team's tally in the IPL by bringing in two new teams. One of which was a Kochi-based franchise “Kochi Tuskers Kerala”.
- Pune Warriors India (2011-2013) PWI was one of the two teams which debuted in 2011, along with KTK. The team was owned by business-tycoon Subrata Roy. The team had a good bunch of players like Yuvraj Singh, Michael Clarke and others.
Deccan Chargers is the only defunct team in the Indian Premier League that has won the IPL title. Gayatri Reddy and T. Venkattram Reddy owned this team, and it has been a part of the IPL since its inaugural season.
