Uri was born in Vienna, Austria on 22 July 1920, and passed away in Ottawa on May 2, 2010. His wife, Jetti Flora Deen, predeceased him in 1997. In 1938, following the Anschluss of Austria with Germany, he left to study in Italy, and then moved to Palestine where he studied at the Technical University, Haifa.
