William Stanley Houghton (22 February 1881 – 11 December 1913) was an English playwright. He was a prominent member, together with Allan Monkhouse and Harold Brighouse, of a group known as the Manchester School of dramatists.

W. Stanley Houghton is one of these forgotten playwrights who made an important contribution to English drama. Since his death at the age of only thirty-two, in 1913, his name has gradually faded from memory, although his most famous play, Hindle Wakes (1912), remains familiar.
Stanley Houghton was an early 20th century playwright born in Ashton upon Mersey, Sale. He was part of the so-called 'Manchester School', a group of dramatists championed by Annie Horniman.
