Raisa Petrovna Smetanina (Russian: Раиса Петровна Сметанина; born 29 February 1952) is a Soviet, Komi and Russian cross-country skiing champion. She is the first woman in history to win ten Winter Olympic medals.
She is the first woman to win 10 medals in her career. She is also the first athlete to step onto the podium at five editions of the Olympic Winter Games, and is one of only three Olympians to have won silver medals five times. 1976-1992, writing history over 16 years.

Over a long career that encompassed five Olympics, Raisa Smetanina compiled one of the greatest records of any female cross-country skier. She grew up in an area near the Ural Mountains called Komi, where she learned to ski in the frigid winters.
