Krishna said in BG 18.66 to mamekam saranam vraj and in reply to that Arjuna said in BG 18.73 that karisye vachanam tava and that's exactly what saranagati is - to do what the lord says. And Krishna from beginning wanted Arjuna to kill all the evil Karuava's in the battle.
