East Flanders [4] (Dutch: Oost-Vlaanderen, French: Flandre-Orientale, German: Ostflandern) is a province of Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. Its capital , and also the largest city of the province, is Ghent ( Dutch : Gent , French : Gand ).
Within Belgian discussions, the two westernmost provinces of the Flemish Region, West Flanders and East Flanders, forming the central portion of the historic County of Flanders are also still collectively referred to as Flanders.
As the largest city in East Flanders, Ghent has four large hospitals, numerous schools, and shopping streets. Flanders Expo, the biggest event hall in Flanders and the second biggest in Belgium, is also located in Ghent. Tourism is becoming a major employer in the local area.

Aalst (Dutch pronunciation: [aːlst] ⓘ; French: Alost, pronounced [alɔst]; Brabantian: Oilsjt) is a city and municipality in the province of East Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located on the Dender River, about 31 kilometres (19 mi) northwest of Brussels.
