Devika Rani was an Indian actress and producer who was the first recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was born into a wealthy and educated Bengali family and married Himanshu Rai, a film-producer and actor, in 1929.
Devika Rani (1908-1994) was the first lady of Indian cinema and a co-founder of Bombay Talkies studio. She starred in many successful films in the 1930s and 1940s, and retired from films in 1945.
