I like using the buzz saw for cutting limb wood any thing under 8" I bring home in 6' lengths to be blocked up by the buzz saw, 8 to 12" diameter I will cut 3' lengths to load on the trailer and cut them in to 12" blocks once home. Bigger than 12" gets blocked up on site. Bigger than 20" gets blocked and split in half or quarters before loading .

Sharpening, besides the hand file or if you get fancy a power grinder ( brand name Jockey) that can be mounted on the saw, you will need to set the kerf ( clearance ) the best way on a steel blade is by swagging the tooth ( hand tools available, mashes the tooth face back so it is wider that the saw body) other method involves hammering the tips over a bit( .025.035) alternating left right.

  6. It had a flat belt. The saw I just got has a 36” blade and a 2 v-belt pulley. I have a cast iron 16 horse Briggs that has a cone clutch on it from a 1970s Simplicity garden tractor. I am hoping this would have enough torque to run this saw. The old cast iron Briggs is a tough low speed high torque engine relative to today’s engines.

  8. Aug 5, 2024 · The MS400 is the same weight/frame as the 362 with better power. They port phenomenal, I’ve ran Brad’s and I must say it’s impressive. The 500i is a great saw, but the 7900 ported is right there with a ported 500i. Think of the MS 400 a zippier version of a 268XP but lighter weight. Mrxlh, Aug 5, 2024.

Has sat outside its whole life uncovered. Has been towed down to the dismal river a couple times. (About 16 miles down the highway one way).
