Bathinda is a city and municipal corporation in Punjab, India. The city is the administrative headquarters of Bathinda district . It is located in northwestern India in the Malwa Region, 227 km (141 mi) west of the capital city of Chandigarh and is the fifth largest city of Punjab .
One of the oldest cities of Punjab, Bathinda, formerly spelt as Bhatinda, is famous as a historical and religious centre dating back to 7000 BC. However modern Bhatinda came into existence in 965 AD, established by Bala Rao Bhatti - a Bhati Rajput king. This is also the very city where Guru Hargobindji fought against the Mughals in 1634.
