Students-Undergraduate Research Graduate Excellence (SURGE) program is an internship Program of IIT Kanpur, which runs under the aegis of Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), IIT Kanpur. SURGE program was launched and inaugurated on 8 May 2006 by Professor Sanjay G. Dhande, the then Director, IIT Kanpur.
Only Indian students from various Indian Institution can apply. Only students of SAARC countries (from Nepal, Bhutan) can apply. Incomplete/Incorrect applications will not be entertained and will be summarily rejected. Any attempt to influence the process will outrightly lead to disqualification of candidature.

In 2006, 10 Grants were offered to exceptional applicants from IIT Kanpur; also, 11 students from the National Institutes of Technology across the country and 3 students from California Institute of Technology (USA) also participated in the SURGE program.
