Harshavardhana ( IAST Harṣa-vardhana; c. 590 –647 CE) was the emperor of Kannauj and ruled northern India from 606 to 647 CE. He was the son of Prabhakaravardhana, the king of Thanesar who had defeated the Alchon Hun, [6] and the younger brother of Rajyavardhana, son of Prabhakaravardhana and next king of Thanesar.
Harshavardhana was born in 590 AD to King Prabhakaravardhana of Sthaneshvara (Thanesar, Haryana). He belonged to the Pushyabhuti also called the Vardhana dynasty. He was a Hindu who later embraced Mahayana Buddhism. He was married to Durgavati. He had a daughter and two sons.
