Shivaji I (Shivaji Shahaji Bhonsale; Marathi pronunciation: [ʃiʋaːd͡ʒiˑ bʱoˑs(ə)leˑ]; c. 19 February 1630 – 3 April 1680) was an Indian ruler and a member of the Bhonsle dynasty. Shivaji carved out his own independent kingdom from the declining Adilshahi Sultanate of Bijapur that formed the genesis of the Maratha Empire.
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the founder of the Maratha Empire in western India. He is considered to be one of the greatest warriors of his time and even today, stories of his exploits are narrated as a part of the folklore.

Shivaji Bhonsale I, also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was an Indian king and a part of the Bhonsle Maratha clan who was born on 19 February 1630 and died on 3 April 1680. Out of the dwindling Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj carved out his own independent kingdom, laying the groundwork for the Maratha Empire.
