Sep 4, 2022 · Kaushik Basu. @kaushikcbasu. If anyone gets credit for India overtaking UK’s GDP, it’s Narasimha Rao & Manmohan Singh’s govts. India’s growth spurt from 1994 & even faster growth from 2005 made this inevitable, despite the sharp slowdown since 2016.
It’s true that Indian govt data show some recovery in investment in FY22. But the same data show a big fall in investment since 2013. This is damaging for job-creation & long-run growth.
