- University of Calgary. It is impossible to talk about higher education institutions in Calgary without bringing Ucalgary right at the beginning. The history of this university can be traced back to 1944 when it began in Calgary as a branch of the University of Alberta.
- Mount Royal University. Mount Royal University began as Mount Royal College in September 1911. It was affiliated to the University of Alberta and then with the University of Calgary.
- Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Canada’s first publicly funded technical institute, SAIT is a popular choice for an undergraduate/ polytechnic institute in Calgary.
