Dec 16, 2019 · The fort is no doubt stunning but if Meherangadh in Jodhpur is say 10/10 then Chitradurga is 5/10. It has potential but needs better marketing and attention. Lots and lots of climbing to do. There are plenty of monkeys so it’s advisable to carry a long twig or stick. Avoid food and water bottles.
Chitradurga Fort is locally known as Elusuttina Kote (meaning the fort of seven circles) and is one of the country’s strongest hill forts. The fort originally had to have had 19 gateways, 38 postern-gates, 35 secret entrances and 4 ‘invisible’ entrances. Many of these have gone out of existence now.
History dates Chitradurga District to the period of the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Located at the base of a chain of lofty peaks, Chitradurga is characterized by boulder-strewn landscape.
