- Everyone Uses Bikes. One of the biggest things you’ll notice when visiting Shkoder, Albania, is that so many people use bicycles. Even during the rainy winter season, you’ll see locals riding their bikes to do errands or go to work.
- Great Accommodation Options. There are plenty of accommodation options in Shkoder for all price ranges. There are quite a few hostels in Shkoder to choose from, usually 9-14 euros a night.
- The Pedonale Is The Place To Be. Pedonale simply means a pedestrian area in the city center. Sometimes it is called the boulevard, or for the British, it is the equivalent of the ‘high street’.

- Stroll Down Rruga Kolë Idromeno. One of the first things to do in Shkoder when you arrive is to head right into the center and explore. The center is a pedestrianized area that’s filled with many cute, boutique shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, and more.
- Explore the Shkoder Historical Museum. There are lots of great museums in Shkoder, but if you only have time for one, then I recommend you head to the Historical Museum.
- Take a Boat Trip on Komani Lake. A huge part of Shkoder’s appeal is the stunning scenery and nature in this part of Albania. Nowhere is that more apparent than Komani Lake; one of the most beautiful places to visit near Shkoder.
- Visit Albania’s Northern Blue Eye. The Blue Eye in Theth (not to be confused with the Blue Eye near Saranda) is one of the most incredible things to do around Shkoder.
- Walk to Rozafa Castle for Sunset. Rozafa Castle, or Rozafa Fortress, is a pretty massive castle resting just outside the city centre. Here you can find castle ruins and a museum (for an extra fee).
- Bike to Shiroka. #2 on the list of things to do in Shkoder is bike to Shiroka; a cute and quiet little village along Skadar Lake. It’s located 14kms (roundtrip) from the city centre of Shkoder which makes Shiroka the perfect place for a day trip from the city.
- Rent Kayaks on Lake Skadar. Speaking of Lake Skadar, something you may want to do after biking here is rent kayaks. There are a few small rental shops located along the shore of the lake where you can rent kayaks pretty cheap!
- Stroll Down Rruga Kolë Idromeno. In the centre of the city you’ll find a large pedestrian area filled with shops, ice cream parlours, restaurants, souvenir shops – you name it!
