Buzz Aldrin (/ ˈ ɔː l d r ɪ n /; born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr.; January 20, 1930) is an American former astronaut, engineer and fighter pilot. He made three spacewalks as pilot of the 1966 Gemini 12 mission, and was the Lunar Module Eagle pilot on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission.

Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin was the celebrated pilot of the Apollo 11 lunar module Eagle. He and Commander Neil Armstrong successfully landed on the Moon’s surface on July 20, 1969.
He pioneered underwater training techniques to simulate spacewalking. In 1966 on the Gemini 12 orbital mission, Buzz performed the world’s first successful spacewalk – extra-vehicular activity (EVA), and set a new EVA record of 5 1⁄2 hours. During that mission, he also took the first ‘selfie’ in space.
