Mar 20, 2024 · The National Policy on Education (NPE) of 1986 is a significant education policy document in India. It was formulated by the Government of India to provide a comprehensive framework for the development of education in the country.
The National Policy on Education (NPE) was adopted by Parliament in May 1986. A committee was set up under the chairmanship of Acharya Ramamurti in May 1990 to review NPE and to make recommendations for its modifications. That Committee submitted its report in December 1990.

1.1 Dilring the year (1986-87), the National Pohcy on Education was finalised after an intensive national debate. The Policy adopted by Parliament in May 1986 was followed up by an elaboration through the Programme of Action which was placed before Parliament and adopted in August 1986.
