All supplies to the atolls (1200 total, 200 inhabited) run through Malé, and they're all a boat or waterplane ride away (my trip from Malé was 45 mins on a plane that fit maybe 10-12) so I'd figure it'd be a bitch to get any help if a super storm of any type came through. There's a movie that talks about this, The Island President.
