Coos, county, northern New Hampshire, U.S. It consists of a mountainous region bounded by Quebec, Canada, to the north, Maine to the east, the White Mountains to the south, and Vermont to the west. The Connecticut River, rising in the Connecticut lakes in northern Coos county, flows down the length.
The mountain is located in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, in Coös County, New Hampshire. The mountain is in several unincorporated townships, with the summit in the township of Sargent's Purchase. While nearly the whole mountain is in the White Mountain National Forest, an area of 60.3 acres (24.4 ha) surrounding and including the summit is designated as Mount Washington State Park.
Coös County contains 1,801.5 square miles of land area and 29.7 square miles of inland water area. As of the 2020 Census, the population density was 17.4 persons per square mile.
