Enschede (uitspraak ⓘ) (Nedersaksisch: Eanske, [æ̃ːnskə]) is een stad en gemeente in Twente, in het oosten van de Nederlandse provincie Overijssel.. Onder de gemeente Enschede vallen, naast de stad Enschede, de dorpen Lonneker, Boekelo, Usselo, Glanerbrug en de buurtschap Twekkelo, die voor de adressering van brieven allemaal onder de woonplaats Enschede vallen.
Die Stadt an der A 35/N 35, einer Abzweigung der niederländischen A 1 ( BAB 30) (Autobahn Amsterdam – Hengelo – Osnabrück – Berlin) liegt etwa 65 Kilometer nordwestlich von Münster und ca. 80 km westlich von Osnabrück. Von Enschede führen der N 18 nach Doetinchem und die B 54 nach Münster.
