After working in advertising for several years, she made her debut by directing the comedy-drama Nil Battey Sannata (2016). The film garnered great reviews and Tiwari went on to direct its Tamil remake entitled Amma Kanakku.

Ashwiny Iyer was born on Monday, 15 October 1979 (age 43 years; as of 2022) in Mulund, Mumbai. She completed her school education at St Mary’s Convent, and later, she completed her higher education at SIES College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. Later, she went on to attend an art school; however, her mother was not happy with her decision.
