Using Sql Server Profiler (GUI tool) to trace a production server is not a good idea. But it depends on load. Use server-side sql tracing (see sp_trace_XXX procedures) instead of it. Also I have found articles: Performance Impact: Profiler Tracing vs. Server Side SQL Tracing, Automating Server Side Tracing in SQL Server
May 6, 2012 · SQL Server Profiler is a GUI that utilizes SQL Server Trace through the client-side. Due to this nature, yes you can potentially see a mild to severe performance impact depending on the environment. SQL Server Profiler is suited mainly for a quick glimpse at what is happening on the server (provided the database server can handle the extra latency).
Aug 14, 2019 · Please, use Extended Events, not Profiler. From this post: "SQL Server Profiler is a tool to be avoided on busy production servers, as shown by the tenfold increase in duration and significant reduction in throughput for the replay." –
Jan 10, 2016 · Even though SQL Profiler does not come with SQL Server Express, you can still create server-side traces using T-SQL. Check out sp_trace_create and sp_trace_setevent. The page for sp_trace_setevent also has a list of traceable event numbers. Finally, if you need a place to get started, this link may serve as a good jumping-off point.
I don't know the Neor Profile SQL 2 tool, but it looks interesting, although not Open Source :-(. There's also MySQL Workbench or Percona's tools. It's important to remember that none of these tools is a "silver bullet" - they just use the same information that's available in the P_S - they might present it nicely, but you're better off learning the P_S than a particular tool.
Dec 18, 2013 · At my previous job we had a tool that trumped SQL Profiler and even gave us stack traces Does anyone know of any tools like the ones I mentioned that works with MySQL. (FYI, I can get the Altiris Profiler to work with MySQL but it will involve running Windows furthermore its not really a Symantec sku so licensing is really tricky)
Apr 23, 2020 · 2. In SQL Server when we have applications for which we do not have source code we could use the SQL Server profiler to analyze which queries or procedures are called when we do something in the application. Now I have similar situation with a .NET third party library and a Postgres database when it would be very useful to track queries called ...
Most storage vendors perform their IOPS measurements using a 4k block size, which is irrelevant for SQL Server workloads; remember that SQL Server reads data 64k at a time (mostly). IOPS and throughput are a measurement of activity, but there’s no measure of timeliness involved.
Feb 10, 2013 · This is clearly defined in SQL Server BOL here. A batch is a group of one or more Transact-SQL statements sent at the same time from an application to SQL Server for execution. Go is a batch separator used in most client application including SSMS. SQL Server compiles the statements of a batch into a single executable unit, called an execution ...
I have a .trc file from a trace that a DBA did on one of my databases. I don't have the SQL profiler tool installed on my PC so I can't view the contents and analyze the trace log. How do I read this
