Oct 20, 2018 · Don’t expect anything groundbreaking from Hunter Killer, though connoisseurs of this sort of bombastic thriller will no doubt be pleased with what it’s got to offer. It follows the conventions of a masculine, pumped up action film pretty much to a tee, even adding in extra convoluted storyline and a bit of intrigue by way of a slightly subtle performance by Butler.
Sep 23, 2018 · Raking in over $200 Million to its mere $30 Million budget, the movie’s success would guarantee that the Tom Clancy / Jack Ryan franchise would continue, and it is a testament to the excellent narrative, sharp script, solid characterisation, superb acting and tensely directed action that the film still has such enduring appeal after almost 30 years.

Mar 11, 2015 · One of my friends is a big fan of Gerard Butler and I was at a loose end last night, so ended up doing an Unlimited showing of Hunter Killer and enjoyed myself rather more than I’d expected. The plot was as ridiculous as the war games I played on my Xbox back in my youth with shoddy CGI to match but Oldman gloriously hammed up his cameo and the action barely relented for the whole 2 hours.
Sep 24, 2023 · sub-genre is pretty damn watchable, even the relatively recent Gerard Butler / Gary Oldman romp, Hunter/Killer. The claustrophobia, the vulnerability, the sheer threat of flooding, drowning and implosion, much like similar space-based action (hence the Star Trek parallels), there are some fabulous thrills to be had in those dangerous depths.
Jul 1, 2012 · Genuinely exciting, surprisingly gory and full of B-movie genre stalwarts like Christopher George, Richard Jaekel and Andrew Prine, this was purely devised as being Jaws-on-land and spearheaded a slew of seventies pictures about nature fighting back, including The Swarm, Night of the Lepus, Orca – Killer Whale, Nightwing, Squirm, Piranha and Claws and, until Anthony Hopkins came along and incurred the wrath of a bloody big Kodiak in The Edge, it was the bear-story to end them all.
