It makes as much sense to call them Persian/Iranian as it does to call the European Roma/Gypsies Indian (who also left India about a millennium ago). While Parsis have largely remained an endogamous community, they have integrated in many other ways into Indian society, including speaking Gujarati or Marathi instead of Farsi, wearing Indian-style clothing, etc.
Oct 28, 2015 · There's the British Indian part of me wanting me to able to say "Freddie Mercury, the British Indian" but there is the objective part of me essentially believing that he didn't particularly like his heritage. It's a shame but the race riots during the 70s and 80s also must have played a role in his decision. Once again, an absolutely immense post!

Jul 12, 2012 · So, he wasn't an Indian nationally or ethnically. What exactly is Indian about him? I may be a Canadian citizen but I wouldn't say I'm ethnically Canadian because that doesn't exist. The same is true for India, they have Punjabi people, Tamil People, Kashmiri people etc. Several different ethnic groups, all bonded by Indian nationality.

He would sometimes refer to himself as a Persian,perhaps alluding to his identity as a Parsi. He failed to mention that he was raised in Panchgani and Bombay.
