Shaktikanta Das is the twenty-fifth governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 12 December 2018. Sir C. D. Deshmukh was the first Indian to serve as the governor and the first governor of independent India. Sir Benegal Rama Rau was the longest serving governor.
Chintaman Dwarkanath Deshmukh, a member of the Indian Civil Service, was the first Indian Governor of the Bank. His association with the Bank commenced in 1939, when he was appointed Government's liason officer. He later served as Secretary and thereafter in 1941 as Deputy Governor of the Bank.

This is the second consecutive year that he has been ranked as the top central banker globally.
