  1. Apr 29, 2005 · The spec sheet in front of me designates "Copper Alloy No. 360 (Free-Cutting Brass)" per specification QQ-B-626 in a condition specified as "Comp. 22" (which I take to mean "Composition 22"). Now UNS C36000 is "Free-Cutting Brass" and QQ-B-626 was discontinued in favor of ASTM-B16 in the early 90's.

  2. May 4, 2007 · Brass with less than 15% zinc is supposed not to dezincify in water. Copper with 5 or 6% zinc is called "gilding metal", and I believe was the chemistry of the US one cent coin prior to about 1980. Just about anything that looks like brass will also stress corrode crack in ammonia, or nitrogen compounds that come from human or animal waste.

  3. Apr 11, 2008 · I am working with a supplier in China that is using what they call a Brass 59-1A. 4. Jul 31, 2008 · Our supplier of "Commercial Brass" sent us a catalog page (minus the name of who the catlog was from)that listed this material as being a composition of 60-65% copper, 35-40% Zinc, .05-.15% Lead with these mechanical properties: 55,000psi tensile strength, a yield strength of 35,000psi, and an approximate hardness of B60 (which I am guessing is Rockwell B60 & not a Brinnell scale).

  6. Nov 24, 2012 · If the composition is out of specification then that will be the primary reason why dezincification and SCC has occurred. Impurities of iron, manganese and nickel are suspected to also to influence SCC occurrence in brass. Recommendations in the latest guidelines are to use DZR brass with iron contents below 0.1%.

  7. Aug 13, 2003 · Can you provide additional details on the type of chlorides (sodium, calcium, etc.), temperature, pH, etc.? Also, what type of admiralty brass are you using (composition, product form, heat treatment)? Chlorides produce de-zincification in high Zn copper alloys, but this effect is retarded by additions of Sn.

  8. Oct 11, 2002 · C360 Half Hard Brass is what is on the print. We got in C36000 Cast and Turned. I was able to find info on C36000 but haven't been able to find anything on C360 Half Hard. Can anyone provide me with the specs on C360 Half Hard? Thank You.

  9. Jan 20, 2011 · A difficult way to make brass; As most have said , just start with brass, will be cheaper than Cu. Typical flux has soda ash , silica ,and borax. Avoid fluorspar, it can make "spinels". The brass will melt a few hundred degrees lower than Cu, your temps should be well below Zn boiling (if you start with brass).

  10. Apr 26, 2007 · Not sure, but it may well be Naval Rolled Brass (Tobin bronze) i.e. 60% copper, 39% zinc, 0.75% tin. This brass has increased corrosion resistance and is commonly used for condenser tube plates. RE: Copper alloy NRB
