So Dan and Brian's family get down to their car as Brian stayed behind in the room to put things away. This is the first red flag in this story. Honestly I think all those stories are made up just like the conjuring universe, some parts are true but a lot is too much sugar added to the story. It is almost certainly a lie or myth being spread around by people in an attempt to create an urban myth, legend, or creepypasta - similar in how some people have previously spread false rumours of K-On being based on a real story (and possibly claiming that the story ends tragically).
