At first I wasn't concerned as I thought it was a natural part of the computer's software, however as I was searching on the internet if this should happen, I got worried as the link and videos were talking about the virus version of it.

After several clicks on it, it will go away without any apparent ill effects. MS support at 800-642-7676 wants $99 to fix it for me.

Now, when I try to delete a file or change the name, it gives me the following message "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Preview Handler Surrogate Host."

So as a consequence of this, if something goes wrong, COM Surrogate process fails, it saves the Explorer from crashing and takes whole dependency on itself. Due to this, for Explorer, we can treat COM Surrogate as sacrificial process. Hope this answers your query!
Dec 12, 2015 · So I've had windows 10 for a couple months now. Everything has been working great until this week. When I leave my computer idle(by idle I mean when I don't move my mouse for 5-10 minutes) Com Surrogate starts using up to 20% of my CPU. This problem is only fixed when I move my mouse. When I do that, Com Surrogate goes back to normal.
