Sumita Sanyal (9 October 1945 – 9 July 2017) was an Indian actress who is known for her work in Bengali and Hindi cinema. [3] She made her debut opposite Uttam Kumar in Bibhuti Laha's Khokababur Pratyabartan (1960). [3] She subsequently appeared in a series of Bengali films in the 1960s and 1970s.
Sumita was a renowned film actress who had worked in both Bengali and Hindi cinema. Her real name was ‘Manjula’ but on a suggestion of director Bibhuti Laha, she changed it to ‘Suchorita’ for his film ‘Khokhababur Pratyabartan’ (1960). She was known for her role as ‘Renu’ in Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Anand’ (1971).
