  1. Mar 18, 2024 · I've not played a Special yet, but I have a Sterling 5 and have owned an Alnico Stingray 5 and a Bongo 5. Given the differences in tone between those 3 and that the Specials have Neodymium pickups and an 18v preamp I would definitely try it first, or get advice from a reliable source as to whether or not the Specials sound like an Alnico Stingray.

  2. Jul 14, 2010 · I have a 2003 MM Stingray 5 with piezo pickups in the Bridge - and I need help with installing the Aguilar OBP3 preamp . I am competent in soldering , just the integration of the new preamp with the existing circuitry , especially the piezo which is wound in to your liking with a balance pot (Mag p/u - piezo p/u's) .

  3. Jan 20, 2010 · indeed! ive played necks that are incredibly thin but uncomfortable or incredibly thick and incredibly comfortable. my stingray's neck is waaaaaay beefier than my first bass(a pj fernandes). but the stingray is just as comfortable despite being far beefier. and for good reason. thin vs thick necks change the sound quite a bit.

  4. Jan 18, 2014 · Hi LowerBavarian, It's unlikely the bass left the US factory in that condition ! Having been an online Thomann client for many years i have realised that sometimes they sell products as "B" stock which means that the object for sale has been returned as "unsuitable" by a previous owner and is then resold as "B" at a slightly lower price OR resold at full retail !!! the bass could have been tampered /altered by a previous owner which is a pitfall of buying online, To return this to the dealer ...

  5. Jun 2, 2008 · Hello then. I'm responding to eamonsr5 from 06-02-2008. I play a 1979 Music Man Sabre Bass. I recently saved a gigin' friends bass, that he traded to a G.C., in order to install a Kahler wammi (don't wanna tamper with the 79). It is a 1992 Stingray I think.

  6. Apr 6, 2005 · I'm about to embark on some experiments regarding strange and unusual string gauges, but before I attempt to remove any of the nuts on my StingRays, how are...

  7. Mar 6, 2014 · A 5-knob Stingray will have a volume, 3-band eq, and the 5th knob is the volume for the Piezo pickups in the bridge saddles. The bridge saddles will have a square cross section. If you look closely you will see an oval shaped insert in the top of each bridge saddle against which the string seats against as it passes over the saddle.

  8. Mar 19, 2022 · For a 2001 Stingray 5, this is correct. In 2008 the Stringray 5 controls changed to Bridge - Parallel; Middle - Series with filter; Neck - Series. Along with that the pickup polepiece material changed from ceramic to alnico. Experts correct me on the date if it's not correct.

  9. Jul 22, 2016 · Hey guys, so I have a bunch of Stingrays, and I just got this Bongo 4H PDN Tobacco Burst a bit ago. I'm having a REALLY hard time getting used to it. Has anyone else had this Issue? I think I might sell it, but don't know what to ask for it, any thoughts? It's basically new. I guess I...

  10. Dec 29, 2017 · Hi all. I wanted to share share my new bass purchase with the Ernie Ball community. This is my 1988 SR 5. It appears that this bass has a very early serial number and was built before the SR 5 started shipping to stores. According to the guy I bought it from it has some unique features. The...
