SilkAir is the "regional wing of Singapore Airlines." In 1976, SilkAir was founded as Tradewinds Pte Ltd handling charters for Singapore Airlines and serving exotic destinations in the Singapore region. Tradewinds emerged into a scheduled airline catering to holidaying passengers in February 1989.
