The woman I know had her voice like that because of a very bad bout of throat cancer, so I assumed it was a similar throat damage situation. Marie Avgeropoulos' voice isn't as deep as Shohreh's. She did have surgery but Shohreh does have a distinctly raspy, rattly voice. I agree with OP on that one.
If you haven't seen the TV show "The Expanse" (on Amazon Prime), it is well worth your time. Ms. Aghdashloo plays a fantastic character in it. In my opinion, its one of the best Sci-fi shows in production right now, with amazing effects, great story and great actors. 5.1K 276. r/CivVI.
The relationships are transportive in their complexity and FEEL incredibly real. SA's character interpretation of Avasarala is so solid it leaves you aching for that kind if leadership IRL. Additionally - it's damned hard to be an older actress in the entertainment industry and get anything but tropes and scraps.

Aug 20, 2018 · I’m sorry, I know as soon as I say this, someone’s going to jump out of the dark and chop my head off but, I get very annoyed every time Shohreh Aghdashlo enters the scene. Now, before y’all are like, “Fuuuck you! Down vote.”. Hear me out. In my opinion, I feel like her performance is very wooden. Her expressions hardly changes.
IIRC Elaida is 70 in the books which for a high power channeller looks 30-ish (other than some facial features) - but that is a completely unimportant part of the character. If the best person for the role looks elderly, then show Elaida should look elderly. Elaida is 50 in the books, Shohreh is 71.
Lakshmi-2 crosses a line, because she's openly preaching hate and mistrust. Her intent is to stir up trouble for a selfish, perhaps even outright insidious end. Everyone's a little prejudiced in our own ways, whether we admit to it or not. We all have biases, we sometimes dislike people for petty reasons.
