While tucked away in the woods, Riverwoods is in close proximity to major highways, dining, and shopping. The Village was incorporated in 1959 and more than doubled from 1,571 persons in 1970 to the present population of 3,790 according to the 2020 census.
The Village of Riverwoods is governed by a Mayor and a six member Board of Trustees. All are elected for four year staggered terms and the trustees serve without pay while the Mayor is salaried. The Board is the legislative body of the Village government.
