Reading School was founded as part of Reading Abbey. The date of the Abbey's charter, 29 March 1125, is taken as the foundation date, making it the 10th oldest school in England, although there are hints that there may have been a school running in Reading before this.
Reading School is a selective boys' grammar school with Academy status. The school caters for day boys and weekly boarders alike and being within the state-maintained sector, all the education provided is free.

These fees cover every aspect of boarding life including all evening activities, boarding trips when allowed, meals and break-time/ evening snacks but do not cover uniform, other school trips or confectionary. We are a state funded school so there are no tuition fees.
