  1. Jan 5, 2018 · Students are made to feel that anything below an A grade is a fail, and below an A is inadequate. Reward ceremonies after big exams are used to enforce this, for example at GCSE only students who get 7 A grades or more are recognised as having made a notable achievement. Bullying is also badly tackled at this school.

  2. Oct 12, 2021 · Incognito22333 · 13/10/2021 19:35. 233 is considered a safe score for Newstead as long as you are within the required 9 mile catchment area. We know lots of girls who go there and are very happy. But it may suit certain types of girls more than others so I hope your DD liked it herself. Thanks.

  3. Oct 12, 2022 · PettsWoodParadise · 16/10/2022 17:21. The required score on offer day 1 March 2022 was 225, it went down to about 23rd on waitlist, someone on 220 didn’t get a place this year when in previous years they would have done. 227 should be fine and it would be an exceptional year for them not to get a place.

  5. Apr 21, 2012 · AngelEyes46 · 21/04/2012 18:47. I live in Croydon and the reports that I've heard about Langley Girls is all really positive. A friend's (who lives very closely to Orchard Way) DD attends Langley Girls and is on the gifted and talented register and she says that the school is fantastic in supporting this.

  6. Oct 26, 2023 · Hi all, i would very much appreciate your thoughts and guidance on choosing the right school for my daughter. She has a high rank at St. Michael's Girls Catholic Grammar school in Finchley, a 436 rank at Latymer coed school in Edmonton and a descent score at Newstead Woods Girls Grammar school in Orpington (Bromley).

  7. Oct 22, 2024 · They all seem happy. Newstead I think sets more homework and offers a wider range of languages to choose from (if that is your DD’s thing). Latin used to be an after school paid for club. TOGs may offer more sporting opportunities - again one would need to check out exact sports a child is interest in.

  8. Feb 24, 2021 · JAGS or Newsteadwood. I really need help to make my decision on my DD secondary school. My DD had passed all local grammar schools and is more likely to be offered a place at Newsteadwood in Orpington (first preference in common application form). On the other hand she was offered Scholarship (around 5% not much) and bursary (20%) at Jags, also ...

  9. Jul 14, 2021 · Overall: DD is getting a very good education. I wish the extra curricular stuff was better/ broader, but friends with children at other state schools have similar experiences. We live at the edge of the 9 mile catchment so DD misses having local friends (most seem to be Orpington/ bromley/ beckenham) and this feeling was of course exacerbated ...

  10. Oct 18, 2019 · A friend’s DD went to Bullers for Y7 and 8 and left due to bullying and joined a private school. Another friend’s did just got amazing GCSEs at Bullers. Pop over to the elevenplusforum for more about Newstead. High attainers get a lower P8 score at Bullers than the middle attainers according to the compare gov tool.
