Manchanahalli Rangaswamy Satyanarayana Rao (21 January 1948 – 13 August 2023) was an Indian scientist. He was awarded the fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri, [1][2] for Science and Engineering in 2010. From 2003 to 2013 he was president of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bangalore, India. [3]
Former IBAB Governing Body member, Prof. M R S Rao passed away in Bangalore on 13 Aug 2023. Prof. Rao obtained his PhD from IISc, where he went on to become a faculty member, and also served as Chairman, the Centre for Genetic Engineering, and Chairman, the Department of Biochemistry.

Aug 13, 2023 · Prof Manchanahalli Rangaswamy Satyanarayana (MRS) Rao was a former member of faculty at the Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science (IISc). In 2010, he was awarded the fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri in the Science and Engineering category, by the Government of India.

He was 75. The Padma Shri recipient is survived by his mother, wife and two sons.
