Jonathan Paul Harvey (born 13 June 1968) is an English screenwriter, actor, playwright and author. Life and works. [] Harvey was born in Liverpool, Lancashire in 1968 to Maureen and Brian Harvey. [ 1 ] . He has a brother, Timothy, who is a music teacher in Chester.
Jonathan Harvey comes from Liverpool and is the multi award winning writer of the play and film ‘Beautiful Thing’, the Bafta nominated sitcom ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ and ‘Beautiful People’ (Best Comedy: Banff TV Festival).
- Harvey penned his first play 36 years ago – winning the £1,000 first prize in a young writers’ competition at Liverpool Playhouse – and has since gone on to write numerous plays, TV shows and books.
- Encouraged by this success he wrote Mohair (1988), Wildfire (1992) and Babies (1993), which led to him winning the George Devine Award and The Evening Standard’s Most Promising Playwright Award.
- His 1995 play Boom Bang-a-Bang premiered at the Bush Theatre, London, and was originally directed by actor-director-cum-legend Kathy Burke, who went on to star in Harvey’s hit TV comedy Gimme Gimme Gimme with James Dreyfus.
- As well as writing more than 300 episodes of the epic TV soap Corrie, he also wrote the script for the 2010 hit stage play Corrie! , which starred Katherine Dow Blyton, who recently won much praise in A Passionate Woman here at the Playhouse, as Deirdre Barlow.

Fuelled by the attraction of a £1,000 first prize to young writers from the Liverpool Playhouse, the result was The Cherry Blossom Tree, a garish blend of suicide, murder and nuns. This effort won him the National Girobank Young Writer of the Year Award.
