Arnold Raymond Cream (January 31, 1914 – February 25, 1994), best known as Jersey Joe Walcott, was an American professional boxer who competed from 1930 to 1953. He held the NYSAC, NBA, and The Ring heavyweight titles from 1951 to 1952, and broke the record for the oldest man to win the title, at the age of 37.
Jersey Joe Walcott was an American world heavyweight boxing champion from July 18, 1951, when he knocked out Ezzard Charles in seven rounds in Pittsburgh, Pa., until Sept. 23, 1952, when he was knocked out by Rocky Marciano in 13 rounds in Philadelphia.
Heavyweight champions Rocky Marciano and Jersey Joe Walcott fought two historic boxing matches in 1952 and 1953. The first fight saw Marciano, the undefeated challenger, take on the world heavyweight champion Jersey Joe in a hard-fought championship fight.
Cream (Walcott) dominated the fight but fouled Palmer when draped over the ropes. Walcott's published record also lists an 8-round points win over Carmen Passarella, wich was Palmer's real name, for August 1 1936 in Camden. Since his retirement, Jersey Joe Walcott, as Arnold Cream, is the Sheriff of Camden County, elected by one of the widest margins in southern New Jersey’s political history. The popular Walcott maintains his interest in boxing serving as a referee in many championship bouts thru out the world.
