Jun 16, 2022 · The way you start is by understanding Japanese culture. Do not look to tattooers for reference. Start with a light understanding of what Shinto Buddhism is. Don’t forget that irezumi is rooted in the customs and cultural ideas of a people that are still here and still a major part of tattooing and we MUST RESPECT that.

I feel like Kitsune pair well with fall themes. Inari is the god of harvests and rice and the fox is here messenger. Kitsune also have a sort of evil, magical nature sometimes so it pairs well with the theme of ghosts and supernatural. Usually tattoos like this will have a fall theme. Jan 27, 2020 · On a similar note, being fourth generation Hawaii born Japanese and using irezumi as a way to connect with my culture and heritage related to Japan and Japanese Buddhism as well as our unique history relating to the influx of Japanese to Hawaii during our plantation days both shortly before and after the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom, I have also been considering perhaps doing a piece that utilizes both traditional Japanese flowers along side endemic Hawaii flowers such as the Ohia blossoms.
