Nov 3, 2020 · I loved the pacing of these two chapters a lot, especially the second chapter. It's brilliant how in the second chapter, the tone changes from serious to funny, (giving a much-needed break from all the tension), to then again kind of melancholy and all that so smoothly and naturally.

Finished the Idiot, C&P, The Dream of a Ridiculous man, and I just picked up and finished Humiliated and Insulted over the past week (family on quarantine, work in end of year shut down mode). Enjoyed this one. And really felt "close" to Nelly. Also feel pretty bad for Ivan Petrovich. Always the friend, never the love interest.
Nov 13, 2020 · Of course, Nelly's death was sad but she still died in the presence of people she loved and who loved her back, unlike her mother who only had Nelly and was left in the mud by the Prince and her father who was blinded by pride and did not forgive his daughter until after she died.

Oct 14, 2020 · Now that I think about it, Humiliated and Insulted was the first book he wrote in Russia after his exile and thus the first time that he could reflect on his "previous life" in a novel. His old ideas. This is one of the reasons I wanted to reread this book with everyone.
