Hexham (/ ˈ h ɛ k s əm / HEKS-əm) is a market town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, on the south bank of the River Tyne, formed by the confluence of the North Tyne and the South Tyne at Warden nearby, and close to Hadrian's Wall.
Hexham is perfectly located for exploring the surrounding countryside including Northumberland National Park, Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage Site, Housesteads Roman Fort, Chesters Roman Fort, Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum.

- Hexham Abbey. Remodelled from the 12th century but with a much older Anglo-Saxon crypt, Hexham Abbey needs at least a couple of hours as there’s loads to see.
- Hadrian’s Wall. The northern limit of the Roman Empire passes close by Hexham and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Started in 122 AD, Hadrian’s Wall was a titanic undertaking, with a full-sized fort every five miles, as well as garrisoned milecastles that were separated by two manned turrets.
- Northumberland National Park. The most northern national park in England is six miles from Hexham and has its headquarters in the town. Hadrian’s Wall weaves through the park, which in its southern regions is made up of rambling moorland.
- Vindolanda. An obligatory day trip, Vindolanda is one of the most significant Roman archaeological sites north of the Alps. From 85 AD to 370 AD this was an auxiliary fort a mile south of Hadrian’s Wall.

Hexham is an historic market town clustered around the Abbey, with independent shops, national retailers, a cinema, arts centre, walks along the Tyne, fishing, golf and many other activities all within the town or very close by.
Hexham is a small market town in the Tyne valley of Northumberland, 24 miles west of Newcastle. It's an attractive place with a medieval abbey and jail, and a good base for exploring Hadrian's Wall to the northwest. Also within a short drive are Northumberland National Park and North Pennines AONB. In 2021 Hexham had a population of 10,941.
